The film features actors Akshaye Khanna, Priyanka Chopra and Zayed Khan in the lead roles, while Tanushree Dutta features in an item number.The music of Aitraaz was composed by Anu Malik while the lyrics were penned by Sameer. Lyrics were also written by Piyush Mishra for one song "Ullu ka Pattha" and Dibyendu Bhattacharya for one song "Ishq Ki Hai... Haan". Amit Mathur (Akshaye Khanna), a simple man, falls in love with Mrinalini (Priyanka Chopra), an ambitious MBA, who is determined to break into the business world after earning her degree. After coming across her at an interview, Amit convinces her to come with him to his village where he lives with his mother and sister. Despite their differences in background, Mrinalini tries her best to fit into the family life of Amit's mother Maangli (Asrani) and his elder sister Geetanjali (Deepika Singh). Amit loves Mrinalini, but struggles to express his feelings for her, as he is confined with the "churidar-clad" traditional Indian way of expressing love. Amit begins to work with a local businessman, Girish Bhatia (Kunal Kapoor), who introduces him to an IT company that deals with computer software which Mrinalini will be working at.
